Format for Talks and Posters
Oral presentations
Presentation format instructions - Macintosh
Presentation format instructions - Windows
- Oral talks must be presented with PowerPoint. We will be using Macintosh laptop computers in all lecture rooms, which do a better job with graphics and video clips and accept files created on PC computers. Detailed instructions on how to prepare the Powerpoint presentation can be downloaded by clicking on the links above.
- We ask you to FTP your presentation file to our host server using the username and password supplied to you. If you have lost your password or username or have questions, email Jack Bradbury []. If possible, view your talk on a Macintosh computer before you come to the meeting to make sure it is working properly. But you should also bring your talk file to the meeting on a USB flash memory drive (best) or on a CD (least preferred) in the event that there are some problems or you need to make changes.
- You can download, delete, and upload a new version of your talk at any time before 8 pm the night before your scheduled presentation. You will also have opportunities to view your presentation on the official meeting laptops during lunch and coffee breaks in Barton Hall. It will be your responsibility to contact the technician in charge of the lecture room where your talk will be presented on the day before your talk, to make sure the file is complete and functioning.
- Please try to use common font styles such as Times, Times New Roman, and Arial, and avoid esoteric fonts.
- Contributed talks should be 14 minutes in duration, with an additional two minutes for questions. Invited plenary speakers should plan a 40-minute talk and allow 5 minutes for questions. The Hamilton Lecture should be 45 minutes in duration, followed by an additional 5-10 minutes for questions.
Posters
Maximum poster size is 31 inches wide by 44 inches tall, or 79 by 112 cm. Use large font sizes so the poster can be easily read, and avoid large blocks of text.
DO NOT EXCEED THESE DIMENSIONS, OTHERWISE YOUR POSTER WILL OVERLAP ADJACENT POSTERS!
Minimize complex background patterns behind the text boxes. Prizes will be awarded for the best posters. There will be three formal poster-viewing sessions during the congress. Presenters will be assigned one session during which they must remain beside their poster.
